CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT: BABIES/KIDS

Damage to the spine and surrounding joints can occur within the womb.  If baby is not head down, abnormal forces are put on the joints of the spine and other joints.  Birth can also be traumatic:

  • The head and neck of the infant have been pulled and twisted during the birth process

  • The birth process is prolonged

  • The delivery process is prolonged

  • Forceps, vacuum, or other aids are used during delivery

  • C-section

Then, imagine if our adult bodies went through what the body of a child goes through on a daily basis. Falling down numerous times a day while learning to walk, rough-housing with brothers and sisters, getting injured while playing sports, or even sleeping in odd positions. We, as adults, would be in serious pain!

Chiropractic adjustments for children are SAFE, get results, and offers kids unexpected health benefits! The three most common health benefits were: a stronger immune system, better sleep, and improved moods! Let's keep our children healthy and THRIVING as they are constantly growing and changing!

CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT: PREGNANCY

Chiropractic adjustments can relieve and even prevent discomfort during pregnancy and aid in a more comfortable journey for the expecting mom! The mom's nervous system is extremely important during pregnancy, because it is responsible for the baby's development. When mom takes care of her nervous system, through chiropractic adjustments, the baby can develop at his/her full potential and both mom and baby benefit! If there is a spinal misalignment, the uterus may not perform at 100% which will slow labor; however, research shows that chiropractic care does reduce labor time!

Chiropractic Care for Mom:

  • Prepares the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth by creating a state of balance in the pelvic bones, muscles, and ligaments

  • Removes tension on the ligaments that support the uterus thus reducing torsion of the uterus (See Webster Technique)

  • Reduces interference to the mom’s nerve system which controls and coordinates all of her body’s functions

  • Allows for a safer, easier birth by decreasing the potential for interventions (C-Section, Forceps, Induction, etc.)

Chiropractic Care for Baby:

  • Removes interference to the mom’s nerve system allowing for BETTER BABY DEVELOPMENT

  • Allows the baby room to develop without restrictions (See Webster Technique)

  • Offers the baby room to move into the best possible POSITION for birth (See Webster Technique)

  • With proper fetal positioning, there is significant decrease in pain and birth trauma caused by intervention

Webster Technique

The mother has ligaments that attach from the uterus to the pelvis. If her pelvis is out of balance, these ligaments have increased tension causing imbalance to the uterus. This decreased space the baby has to grow in, limits the baby's potential for optimal development and sometimes causes posterior or breech births. In addition, the constrained uterus may slow labor and add pain and distress to both mom and baby. Chiropractic adjustments (specifically the Webster Technique) create an environment for an easier and safer delivery!

Dr. Becca and Dr. Ariel are certified in the Webster Technique, a technique that reduces interference to the nervous system, balances pelvic muscles and ligaments, and allows the baby to get into the best position possible for birth.

Pregnant Moms Love To Get Adjusted!

Our touch is gentle, and our pregnant mom's always love being able to lay face down. In order to accommodate for the baby, our table lowers at the belly, and we have special pregnancy pillows that are hollow for the belly to lay in as well!

 Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the use of very thin, sterile needles that are inserted into specific points on the body to promote circulation and mobilize your body's natural healing and immune response.

Acupuncture Physical Medicine  (APM) is a modern approach to acupuncture developed over the past twenty-five years. Inspired by French and Japanese meridian styles of acupuncture, and the trigger point teachings of Dr. Janet Travell, APM assessment and treatment takes as its basis a patient's actual experience of illness or distress. Rather than a theoretical textbook diagnosis, APM assessment of a patient focuses on palpation of the body for myofascial constrictions.

Chinese Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the general term for the style of acupuncture which most acupuncturists are trained in and the style which most people practice. There is a broad range of techniques used and treatment protocols. Most recent clinical studies regarding acupuncture usually use treatment techniques and/or protocols based on TCM Theory. According to TCM, the human body exists in a dynamic state of equilibrium between itself and its external environment, and among internal organs and their functions. Disease develops if the body is unable to adapt to changes imposed. Whether an illness arises depends on the strength of the body and its organs.

Japanese Acupuncture Japanese style acupuncture utilizes a systematic palpatory method designed to provide instant feedback. Using this approach, a Japanese Style practitioner follows a palpation sequence, establishing both a diagnosis and treatment options. The needling methods are shallow and virtually painless, using the smallest gauge needles.

Dry Needling is the insertion of an acupuncture needle into a trigger point or muscle knot to help break up the adhesion. The needle is a powerful tool which can be used both as a scapula to slice up the trigger point, and as a metal conductor to help the surrounding nerves stimulate pain relieving substrates (opioids and endoprhins) and stimulates actin and myocin to contract and release the trigger point.
Trigger points occur when a muscle is trying to hold and stabilize itself either because it is weak, injured, or overworked. Trigger points often occur in athletes, people with muscle imbalances, and people who do repetitive activities (musicians, office workers, or people who drive a lot). Often trigger points cause distending pain which is pain located in areas other than where the trigger point is, except when it is pressed on. A good test for a trigger point is, if you suspect it is causing a problem, to squeeze the suspected muscle knot. If it is painful when you press on the muscle knot, and the pain travels to another location, it is likely that is a trigger point.

Tui Na is an eastern style massage. Tui is “to push,” and Na is “to lift and squeeze.” Practitioners apply techniques such as rubbing, pressing, rolling, kneading, brushing, shaking, and tapotement between joints to impact acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems. Tui Na at Thrive is problem-focused and targeted at those specific areas which cause you the most pain. Tui Na does NOT include the use of needles.

 Reiki

Reiki means "universal life force energy" and was founded in the early 1900's by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan. The principle behind Reiki is that our bodies are electromagnetic and energetic in nature, and this energy can be influenced in a healthy, positive way to balance the mind, body, and spirit. Reiki is a subtle energy therapy that promotes relaxation and healing through the use of gentle touch. Some benefits include:

  • Promotes physical and emotional healing

  • Promotes deep relaxation and balance
